As someone passionate about protecting theĀ environment, the California Drought, which was at it's worst between the years of 2012-2016, was an easy choice when it came to creating a an ad campaign. With that, I decided to focus on promoting water conservation in the trying times brought forth by the drought.
My goal was to create three unique posters through different mediums while offering helpful information to help conserve water in those dire times. Each poster features the main message.
WHAT IF IT WAS GONE?
My first poster used photography to achieve it's desired message. A scene I set up in my own kitchen at the time, I filled my sink with sand on top of a cleverly hidden garbage bag to avoid ruining the plumbing (a decision my parents maybe should have reconsidered letting me do but I digress). After merging two pictures together to achieve the effect of the sand running from the faucet, I achieved my vision to display how inconsiderate faucet use could contribute to the tragic conditions at the time.
My second poster was focused on the use of textures to capture the extreme heat in the area intersecting with the main message of the poster.
My final poster utilized an illustration I drew to display a dried up lake behind a "No Swimming" sign to show how the drought affected local water sources in the area. This was an especially ambitious and tedious idea for me at the time as I was drawing in the cracked waterbed as well as experimenting with 3D text.
