In the late Fall of 2020 I was offered an opportunity to co-direct and rotoscope animate an entire music video for the band Foxing in the lead up to their upcoming record "Draw Down the Moon"
Duties included advising on the video shoot, establishing an art style, color palette, and file system that could be easily utilized by the team, and assisting in drawing well over 2000 frames of animation within our 6 month deadline to complete the video.
The process began with the creation of test images to establish a visual style across the video.
Once we knew what things were going to look like, we received the final cut planned out the frames and how long everything would take. Leading a team of 3 other talented artists and designers, we drew frames daily, keeping in close contact via messaging and weekly meetings to ensure we were on track to meet our deadline. I created gifs such as these to show the process.
Once we had completed all the base animation for the video, we used our extra time to go back and added motion lines, a background changing to the beat, and other visual effects on top for extra flair.
With our final stretch, we processed the video through a VHS connected to an old TV to achieve a vintage animated look. Below is a link to the final product which has accrued nearly 150k views on the Youtube platform alone at the time of writing.
